English-Nigerian Afrobeats and Alté pioneer Boj sought to find a vibrant, unique and controversial visual style to accompany his new album ’12 Summers’. The album is a reflection of his 12 years (summers) working as a musician in Lagos and London, a vibrant experience of culture, sex and
music. After sitting down with Boj I proposed a concept that would place the more uncomfortable side of summer at the forefront of the campaign; Switching beaches, sun and partying with humid stickiness, insects, reproduction and overgrown flora. The feeling of uncontrolled growth, the new found limitations of celebrity, a character scrutinised and pinned up like an insect under inspection by the world.
I developed a vibrant and alluring while also sexually implicative series of visuals with dark thematic undertones. The end result is a series of illustrations depicting Boj, insects and plants, paired with stickers harkening to international postage stamps and stickers.
